Franchising - First Steps


There are people who are thinking about franchising, but they aren’t sure how they can buy a franchise.

Well, there are different steps that you should take, and these steps will make the process as comprehensive and as easy as possible.

1. You will want to meet with the franchiser and see what they have to say. Get a feel for how you interact with them, because if you buy the franchise this person is going to be, in essence, your boss. You want to make sure that you are going to be able to get along with him or her before you make a decision.

2. Talk to other franchisees and see what they like or don’t like about the franchise. You can count on them to give you an honest opinion because they don’t have anything to gain or lose by giving you the truth. Find out how the franchiser is to work for, and if they are supportive to their franchisees.

3. Look over the information that the franchiser gives you and pay particular attention to the facts and figures that are on the paper. Look at both the most successful and the least successful locations. Were there any franchises that failed?

4. Visit a location and watch how the employees work. Get a feel for the business and see how things are run. Ask yourself if you can do that every morning and if you believe in the business.

5. If you have decided that you want to buy a franchise, you will need to get the money for it. Draw up a plan and see if you can get a loan from a venture capitalist. If you have trouble getting a loan, you can talk to friends and family. They may be willing to go into the business with you.

Once you have completed all of the steps, you are ready to buy your franchise and start your new business. Remember that when you buy a franchise you aren’t going to see the money start rolling in right away. It’s going to take time and patience, and a lot of hard work. But you may find that you are happy with your new job and that you are glad that you took the first step in becoming your own boss. When you buy a franchise, you become a part of one of the biggest and best groups around. You have become a franchisee.
