Glossophobia is the fear of public speaking.

You will find that there is a certain amount of anxiety that you might feel when you are told that you will have to get up and give a speech. Glossophobia happens to be the most common phobia.

There are people who say that they would rather die than give a speech; that is how bad glossophobia can be. There are some people who feel physically sick when they get up in front of others.

When it comes to showing just how common the fear of public speaking is, you will find that there are over 75% of all people who are affected. It is ranked as one of the most common fear. There are severe anxiety symptoms for the fear.

There are also many celebrities who find that they are afraid of public speaking. Those like Barbara Streisand and Dusty Springfield are affected by glossophobia.

Some of the symptoms to glossophobia include intense anxiety.

There will be things like distress, nausea, and even feelings of panic. Your body may begin to stiffen and you will begin to feel some physical pain. You may also find problems with your hearing from an increase in blood pressure and heart rate.

You will also begin to sweat a lot and your may begin to feel like your losing your breathe. That is all the physical aspects of the fear, however, there are verbal things that you will want to take in consideration as well. Things like stuttering and repetition of noises or words.

There are lot of things that you might feel or say because of your fear, but that is because it is the body’s natural way of fight or flight instincts. You will want to make sure that you learn to control the symptoms and conquer your fear.

It’s hard to say what causes you feel the fear, but you may find that it is become of an incident that you had early on in your public speaking years. It may go clear back to high school or even grade school.

However, it is known to ruin speeches and even devastate others.

You will find that if you join some of the local chapters or groups of things like the Toastmasters International. You will be able to improve your speech skills and hopefully get over your fear of speaking in front of others.

You will have to do something to help with your fear because you will want to learn how to speak in front of others and how to succeed in the business world as a confident speaker.
