Knowing The Difference Between An “Informative Speech” And A Persuasive Speech

Have you ever gone to a seminar and that that it is just an informative speech on something and it turns out to be more than what you bargained for?

You may also find that you may want to go to a political rally and find out that it is just a bunch of information and nothing about how the leaders feel about a topic.

It’s so hard to deal with the miscommunication, but you will want to know how you can tell the difference so that you don’t end up getting more influence than you bargained for.

First, when it comes to informative speech, you will want to make sure that you notice how a person gives the speech.

What words do they choose? You should not hear the word “I” too much in an informative speech; however, you will see visual aids that show statistics and other facts.

This is a very good point that has to be made when it comes to an informative speech. You should never use your own opinion in the speech. Options are found when it comes to persuasive speeches.

The way that you can pick up if you are being influenced or educated is when you feel the person’s passion for the speech. A good persuasive speech puts a lot of passion into their speech and they begin to rage with emotions.

Sometimes you can feel the emotions, but you may just see that the speaker is over acting or over doing it. Those who really have a passion for something will show their passion. You will notice it right away.

How can you handle the situation when you feel like you came for one show and got another? You can always sit through the speech and listen to them the whole way through.

You should sit there and think about questions that you would like to answer to try to turn it into what you came for. For those who do not have that much patience for situations like these, you may just want to learn to walk away.

However, if you leave after you have spent the money on the tickets, you lose out double. It is always recommended that you take out a short writing pad and you jot down some thoughts.

Then during the question session, you can bring all the questions up and the speaker will try to justify their speech.

Other than showing a person courtesy, you will find that there isn’t much that you can do. You have the option to stay or leave, but you may be able to learn a few things and also expand on how you feel. When you go to hear a speech, you really shouldn’t expect just facts, because you will mostly get their opinion to. You will find that there are lot of speakers who like to deliver a speech based on facts, but will then give their own opinion.
